Title: Mere Christianity(191 pages)
Author: C.S. Lewis (1898-1963)
Summary:
As the title suggests, this book captures the essence and foundation of true Christianity, yet it is by no means meant for only Christians. Originally a series of casual radio talks, because of their widespread popularity, Lewis published them into 3 separate books, The Case for Christianity (1943), Christian Behavior (1943), and Beyond Personality (1945). These are brought together in Mere Christianity, one of over 30 of his famous books, including The Chronicles of Narnia. Many have concluded that C.S. Lewis was the best thinker within and without Christianity in the 20th century, yet he has a charmingly playful sense in his writing. The first 39 pages may be a little heavy for the average mind; it contains a moral argument for the existence of God which is very useful in defending the faith. The next 23 pages gives a wonderfully concise picture of basic Christian belief. Following is 63 pages of essential Christian morality and discipline, from sex and marriage, to faith, love, and hope. The book is well worth your time if only for this section, it is very understandable and practical. Finally, the book rounds off with 61 pages describing some very difficult doctrines of the Christian faith, including many questions never really answered in church, like “How does God answer everyone’s prayer at the same time?” With only 185 pages of text, it reads like a 500 page book. It is a book to study, well worth your time.

Title: The Pursuit of God (200 pages)
Author: A.W. Tozer (1897-1963)
Summary:
Tozer was considered within his own lifetime as the “20th century prophet,” bringing unique insights in the life and culture of America’s church. For 31 years he preached at Southside Alliance Church in Chicago, and he was well known as not only a brilliant scholar but also as a man of God throughout Chicago. One of over 40 of his books, The Pursuit of God is the most widely read, being printed in 20 languages to over a million people. Interestingly enough, he started writing the book during a train ride; and when he got off, he had already finished the rough draft. It covers a wide spectrum of Christian thought and practice through very practical and motivating writing. Warren Wiersbe writes, “Happy is the Christian who reads a Tozer book when his soul is parched and God seems far away.” Tozer not only tells you who God is, he shows you how to find Him.

Title: Quo Vadis (579)
Author: Henryk Sienkiewicz (1846-1916)
Summary:
Quo Vadis is one of the lost giants in modern Christian reading. Written over a century ago by the most respected Polish writer ever, Henryk Sienkiewicz. This powerful epic won him the prestigious Nobel Prize for Literature in 1905. It is a powerful historical fiction novel of the Christian persecution during the Reign of Nero in ancient Rome, which began approximately 21 years after the death of Christ. The novel contrasts the diabolical evil of Rome with the hope, love, and joy of the early church, including the Apostle Paul and Peter. Sienkiewicz informs you of the struggles of the early church while following an intriguing romance. We encourage Quo Vadis for a mature audience only, because the violent and sexual nature in which the Christians of early Rome lived is very detailed at times.
